Bamboo window shades are a great addition to any room in your home – they match almost anything, and add a dash of class no matter what style you choose.
There are a number of factors to consider when choosing the right shade for your home, such as the variety of styles and sizes bamboo shades have to offer. This month, the Regency Shutter & Shade team gathered the four best ways you can customize bamboo window shades to suit your home, and which qualities you should consider before you commit to buying.
1. Slat Size
The slat size for bamboo shades ranges in degrees of thickness. Asides from the obvious differences in size, it’s important to note that the size of your bamboo shade flat offers different benefits.
Generally, thicker slats consist of fewer gaps to let less light into a room. Meanwhile, thinner slats tend to let more light inside your home. During the scorching hot South Florida summer, less outside light is a blessing, but it may not be the right fit for everyone.
At Regency Shutter & Shade, our team can help you create a custom bamboo slat to match your unique needs, or help you pick out the perfect sized slat for your home. The choice is up to you!
2. Roll or Fold
When shades are pulled up and out of the way of your window, the slats stack one on top of another. Uniquely, bamboo shades can roll upwards into a bundle for a less classical but highly authentic look for any room in your home.
3. Inside vs Outside Mount
When talking about window shades, an inside mount is when the top of the shade attached to the wall and the rest of the shade is fully within the window’s recess. In contrast, an outside mount has the shade hanging outside the recess of the window (though still within the house).
Much like thick slats versus thin slats, the choice between an inside or outside mount is a privacy trade-off. Inside mounts make a room feel more spacious, but will let light peek in passed its edges. Outside mounts make a room look smaller, but cover an entire window.
Bamboo texture variety is unmatched. Whether it’s woven, tortoise shell, or lacquered, bamboo shades come in a wide variety of textures to choose from. Picking the right texture can really make a room pop, and add a visual interest to otherwise plain furniture and dressing.
A note of caution: if you do go with a woven texture to your bamboo shades, be sure not to have too much wicker or rattan in the rest of the room. One piece is a statement, while five is a run-on sentence and verging on looking like a barn.
